Saturday Afternoon Club

The Women's Saturday Afternoon Club of Scottdale and Mt. Pleasant met May 20 at The YMCA of Laurel Highlands, Mt. Pleasant. Twenty-five members and guests attended the meeting.

President Cheryl Pallygus welcomed everyone and asked the hostess committee to begin the meeting with an inspirational reading with Joyce Prutz, followed by the Blessing with Jill Cook before the picnic lunch was served by Keefer Catering.

Vicki Ulery, from the program committee, introduced Tom Zwierzelewski, longtime Scottdale resident and local historian. He is a member of the Scottdale Zoning Board, and the Scottdale Community Civic and Industrial Association. He is president of the Scottdale Historical Society and co-chairman for the Scottdale 150th Committee.

He is a graduate of Southmoreland High School, Art Institute of Pittsburgh with a bachelor's degree in interior design and also attended Triangle School of Drafting. He retired from Levin Furniture with 41 years of service with many titles including store manager, accessory buyer and merchandise buyer just to name a few of the departments.

He presented a handout of "74 Homes of Scottdale Through the Decades 1820s to 199" to all members and guests. A brief description, architectural style and history of each home was also presented to the ladies. A pamphlet of "A Walking Tour of Scottdale Homes" was also made available to the members and guests. Comments from members regarding some of the homes were made throughout the presentation.

The tables were decorated with red and white checked tablecloths, summer flowers and "picnic" items by the hostess committee.

Pallygus called the business meeting to order. Vicki Ulery read the minutes from the April meeting in the absence of Secretary Marty Savanick. Barbara Shaffer gave the treasurer's report.

Cook read a second reading of several proposed by-law additions and updates for the new booklet for next year. The changes were agreed on and the changes passed by a group vote.

Nancy Woods read a second reading on a dissolution article and those changes were agreed on and those changes passed also by a group vote. The changes will appear in the new booklets for the members before the October meeting.

Pallygus thanked the May hostess committee of Joyce Prutz, Jill Cook, Christina Hitlan, Teresa Rearko and Marty Dolfi.

The next meeting will be held on Oct. 21 at Pleasant Valley Golf Club, Connellsville.
